Shortly after the motion passed, police officers started removing the barriers, but it may take a few days to get them all down, WMBF reported.
The beaches had been closed for almost a month when Gov. Henry McMaster shut down beach access on March 30 because of the outbreak, but the order was lifted April 20, allowing local governments to decide on when to open the areas.
City council did warn beachgoers they would be visiting the shore at their own risk since there are no lifeguards on duty, WBTW reported.
Social distancing rules are required and will be enforced, officials said.
Shoppers have also been returning to Myrtle Beach's Broadway at the Beach shopping areas, Myrtle Beach Online reported.
The shopping center is allowing business owners to open up at their own discretion.
