3 dead, 2 seriously hurt in Florida interstate crash that involved cement mixer

Three people were killed and two others were seriously injured Monday in a crash on a Florida interstate Monday, authorities said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved seven vehicles, including a cement mixer, on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Sarasota, WTSP reported.

One lane was open to traffic, the television station reported.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m., according to WWSB.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man driving a 2006 Mack cement mixer was killed, the television station reported. Also killed was a man driving a Dodge Durango and a man driving a 2018 Dodge 2500. All three victims' names were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, WWSB reported.

The driver of a 2013 Ford Mustang, Angela Blase, 55, of Venice, was in serious condition at an area hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A man driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup was in critical condition. Elizabeth Gunn, 57, of Sarasota woman driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla suffered minor injuries, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.

Jesse Pillinger, 21, of Charlotte, suffered no injuries, the newspaper reported. He was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, WTVT reported.
