Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper posted a photo of the fish on its Facebook page, reminding people that goldfish "can survive year-round in our watershed and can destroy the habitat of native fish."

The Facebook post notes the fish was caught downstream from the wastewater treatment plant.

According to Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, there are more than "tens of millions" of goldfish living in the Great Lakes.

" If you cannot keep your pet, please return it to the store instead of flushing or releasing it," officials with the organization said on its Facebook page.
