A Lowe’s employee stole $6,000 worth of merchandise and gave about half of it away as Christmas presents, police said.

Brian Barnes, 39, of Clarksburg, was seen on surveillance cameras stealing merchandise at the store, WBOY reported.

Barnes told investigators Feb. 10 he had stolen about $6,200 worth of items over the last six months. He gave half away as gifts during the holidays; the other 52 items were still at his home.

Barnes was arrested and charged with embezzlement. He is in jail in lieu of $6,000 bail.
