Fugitive says he'll turn himself in if Facebook post gets 15,000 likes, police say

Jose Simms, 29, who is wanted on seven failure-to-appear warrants, reportedly made the offer this week in a Facebook exchange with Torrington police.

Police in Connecticut say a fugitive has pledged to turn himself in if a Facebook post featuring his wanted poster gets more than 15,000 likes.

According to WFSB-TV, Jose Simms, 29, who is wanted on seven failure-to-appear warrants, made the offer this week in a Facebook exchange with Torrington police.

"They went back and forth with how many likes it would take," Torrington police Lt. Bart Barown told WFSB.

Simms first proposed 20,000 likes, while officers countered with 10,000, police said in the Facebook post. They eventually met in the middle.

"It will be difficult but is doable," the department wrote.

By early Thursday, the Facebook post had received more than 20,000 likes.

"We are getting a lot of inquiries as to if Mr. Simms has turned himself in yet," read an update to the post. "As of now he has not. We will update the post again when he does turn himself in. Thank you to everyone who liked the post and messaged us with info. It's all appreciated."
