Gordmans department stores to close

Gordmans department stores will be closing, the company announced, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Omaha, Neb.

The company said in a statement to investors it would be liquidating assets and inventory. However, there was no date announced for the store closings, according to the Omaha World Herald.

"Until further notice, all Gordmans stores are operating as usual without interruption," said Andy Hall, president and chief executive officer.

The company is based in Omaha, and has 106 stores in 22 states, mainly in the Midwest.

According to its website, Gordmans was ranked No. 29 on Fortune’s 2012 list of America’s 100 best small-cap companies based on sales and earnings growth. In addition to brick-and-mortar stores, Gordmans has an online business, Gordmans.com.
