Supplies like water, plywood and batteries were all snatched from the shelves at retailers as the locals prepare for the storm's arrival. While Dorian's direction remains unclear as of Friday morning, an area from Melbourne to Cocoa Beach had been mentioned as a likely spot for the storm's landfall.
Mike Lindley told WFTV he's trying to prepare as best he can.
"Always concerned," Lindley said. "(You can) never take it lightly."
Brevard County emergency management is currently at normal operation, but plans are in place in case activation, sheltering and coordination need to be ramped up.
"I've been here 60 years, been through a lot of stuff," resident Brenda Teixiera told WFTV. "You just have to wait and see. Keep an eye on the news and just be prepared."
Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is also preparing personnel and facilities for the possible arrival of Dorian.
It's a race against time at Cape Marina in Port Canaveral as boat owners are using a lift to remove their boats from the water.
Port Canaveral officials urged boat owners not to wait until the last minute to secure their boats.
"I saw the storm was coming, saw a Cat. 3 coming," Tom Crittenden told WFTV. "I figure it was time to get the boat and be safe. Try to beat the rush."
Dorian is also forcing some cruise lines to change their itineraries from the port. The exact impact on the cruise lines won't be known until later in the week.
