Infant dead in Florida murder, attempted suicide, authorities say

Florida sheriff’s deputies made a grim discovery Wednesday morning when they found a 5-month-old boy dead in what is being described as a domestic violence-related murder and attempted suicide.

A crew of workmen called 911 around 8:30 a.m. from the parking lot of The Boardwalk, a popular shopping venue on Okaloosa Island. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived and found the infant dead in a pickup truck parked there.

"His mother, a local resident, is currently undergoing medical treatment. An autopsy is being scheduled for the baby," Sheriff's Office officials said in a Facebook post.

Okaloosa Island is a 3-mile strip of island between Fort Walton Beach and Destin in northwest Florida.

No additional details on the infant’s death were immediately released.
