Infant ejected from SUV on California highway found safe in car seat carrier

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Cadillac Escalade driven by Ulizes Benitez, 29, veered off the road around 7:30 p.m., the newspaper reported.

Authorities said the single-vehicle crash occurred when Benitez made a sharp right turn from the center lane, according to the Bee. The SUV traveled across another lane and down the embankment, where it flipped several times, the newspaper report.

According to the Highway Patrol, the infant was found safe in his car seat along the shoulder of the highway's southbound lanes, the Bee reported.

It is unknown why Benitez veered off the road, the newspaper reported.
