Iranian national with machete, $22K arrested near Trump’s Palm Beach resort, police say

Police in Palm Beach arrested a man Friday who was carrying several weapons and $22,000 in cash.

Police in Palm Beach arrested a man Friday who was carrying several weapons and $22,000 in cash.

A man identified as an Iranian national was arrested Friday in Florida, not far from President Donald Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, after he was found with knives, a pickax, a machete and $22,000 in cash, authorities said.

The man, identified by his passport as Masoud Yareilzoleh, had no known address, WPTV reported. Town of Palm Beach police spokesman Michael Ogrodnick said Yareilzoleh's identification showed he was in the United States legally, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Yareilzoleh was arrested on suspicion of carrying concealed weapons, a misdemeanor, Ogrodnick told the newspaper. He was detained after Palm Beach police responded to a call about a suspicious person and found Yareilzoleh in possession of two knives, a machete, a pickax and $22,000 in cash, CBS News reported.

Yareilzoleh was arrested at the Flagler Memorial Bridge, about four miles from Trump’s residence in Palm Beach, the network reported. The president was not at the Palm Beach resort Friday.

Authorities also searched a car police said was associated with Yareilzoleh at Palm Beach International Airport, WPTV reported.

Last month, a Chinese national was arrested on the grounds at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach authorities told the Sun-Sentinel. In November, another Chinese national talked her way past Secret Service agents by pretending to be a Mar-a-Lago member.

Yareilzoleh was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail, CBS News reported.
