Bergen County Judge Roy F. McGeady ruled that there is probable cause to investigate a complaint of official misconduct against him, NBC News reported.
The complaint was filed last month by activist and former Teaneck firefighter Bill Brennan. It stemmed from a separate Bridgegate trial in which ex-Port Authority official David Wildstein testified that the Republican governor knew about the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge — which were allegedly ordered by Christie staffers as political retribution against Mark Sokolich, the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee.
The scheme caused a crippling traffic jam on the bridge for days. Brennan claims that the scandal has cost New Jersey taxpayers millions of dollars.
The case will now go to the Bergen County prosecutor's office, which will decide whether the case will be sent to a grand jury.
Christie has said that he had no knowledge or involvement in the lane closures.
