Hart's friend Jared Black was driving the actor's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Sept. 1 around 1 a.m. when he lost control and crashed into a ditch, according a California Highway Patrol spokesperson. Black and Hart were seriously injured, but the third passenger, Black's fiance, Rebecca Broxterman, was not seriously hurt, E! News reported.
Black was "determined not to be under the influence of alcohol," CHP said in a statement about the crash, according to ET.
TMZ reported that Hart underwent surgery in which three areas around his spine were fused.
Unnamed sources told TMZ Hart will spend about a week in rehab before starting outpatient care.
