The victim's mother told police that Thompson became angry with her daughter because of an outfit she wore to church, WSMV reported. Citing court records, the news station reported that Thompson repeatedly yelled, "You're not going to put me back in jail," during the argument, which took place in front of the couple's children.
The incident was reported less than a week after domestic violence charges were dropped against Thompson in connection to a previous alleged incident involving his wife in December, WZTV reported.
Thompson's wife kicked him out of the house after they argued, but he later returned and pushed his way into the home, WKRN reported. Authorities said Thompson pushed his wife down a set of stairs in front of the house and beat her until she was unconscious, punching her in the face several times, according to WZTV.
Thompson packed a car full of his clothes and left the home, after which the victim's mother called police, WSMV reported. Authorities later found Thompson at a nearby apartment, according to WZTV.
Authorities arrested Thompson on felony attempted criminal homicide and misdemeanor charges, according to records from Davidson County Jail. He was ordered held on a $301,000 bond.
The victim was being treated for her injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, WSMV reported Monday.
