Marshawn Lynch to visit Seattle amid possible return to Seahawks KIRO7.com
Free agent running back Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks are "open to a reunion" and Lynch is traveling to Seattle to discuss a return to the team, according to Ian Rapoport, of the NFL Network.
Head Coach Pete Carroll confirmed the report on his weekly radio show on 710 ESPN Seattle Monday morning.
“He’ll be flying in here this morning and we’re going to give him a really good chance of coming back and playing for us,” Carroll said. Carroll reiterated that Lynch would need to work out and pass a physical before officially signing with the team.
The Seahawks lost Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise to season-ending injuries in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The injuries to Carson and Prosise come after Seattle had already lost running back Rashaad Penny to a torn ACL in a week 14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Rookie sixth-round pick Travis Homer is the only healthy running back on the Seahawks active roster. Homer had five carries for 16 yards in Sunday's loss.
Lynch hasn’t played a snap in the NFL since week six last year when his Oakland Raiders fell 27-3 to the Seahawks in London.
In six games with the Raiders last season, Lynch had 90 carries for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Lynch joined the Raiders ahead of the 2017 season after not playing in 2016. In 2017, Lynch played in 15 games and rushed for 891 yards on 207 attempts.
A former first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2007, Lynch was traded to the Seahawks in October 2010 – Pete Carroll’s first season as head coach of the Seahawks.
Lynch would go on to rush for 6,347 yards in 82 regular season games with the Seahawks – good for fourth place in franchise history.
In 11 seasons in the NFL, Lynch has run for 10,379 yards – good for 29th place all-time in NFL history. He also has 937 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 11 career playoff games – all with the Seahawks.
Lynch was selected to the Pro Bowl four times with the Seahawks, was named first-team All Pro in 2012 and helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos.
Despite Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, the Seahawks still have a chance to clinch the NFC West with a victory over the San Francisco 49ers on “Sunday Night Football.”
