Littleton police arrested Asia Dotten-Jiles, 22, of Newton, and charged her with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The incident, police said, happened Wednesday around 6 p.m.
At the scene, police said Dotten-Jiles had confronted the victim, identified as Jaime Walker, as well as neighbors, and had made verbal threats after the victim had gone to a nearby home to visit a neighbor.
When Walker left her neighbor's house, Dotten-Jiles allegedly confronted her again, this time with a hammer and a spray bottle containing bleach.
Authorities said it was then that Dotten-Jiles threw the hammer at Walker, hitting her in the shoulder and head, before spraying bleach at her.
Walker suffered minor injuries in the incident.
"I don't know her," Walker told WFXT. "I only met her just the other night. I said hello to her, that was it."
Armed with a can of pepper spray, Walker used it on Dotten-Jiles, causing her to retreat.
"It was on my keychain," Walker said. "My dad gave it to me for protection because I'm a girl and I don't drive, I walk.”
Police found Dotten-Jiles inside the house after she had showered and washed the pepper spray from her body.
Police took Dotten-Jiles into custody, where she was held on $25,000 bail and was arraigned Thursday morning in Ayer District Court.
Dotten-Jiles was also wanted on a warrant out of Quincy District Court on a charge of resisting arrest and a warrant out of Boston District Court on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
As the judge read her prior criminal history, Dotten-Jiles became visibly angry in court. Her attorney says the charges are baseless.
"She denies any allegations," her attorney, Chris Reardon, told WFXT. "This is a self-defense case."
Walker was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center for evaluation. She is planning to have surgery on her cheekbone, which she says was fractured.
"I didn't deserve it at all. I didn’t know her from a hole in the wall," Walker said of Dotten-Jiles. "I'm here helping my friend because she just lost her husband and, you know, she needed help."
Dotten-Jiles is due back in court Aug. 9 for a pretrial hearing. She is being held without bail.
