According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Northville High School teacher Jason William Dean, 36, of Livonia, was arrested Monday, nearly a decade after the alleged sexual assaults involving the then-14-year-old victim occurred. He faces three counts of first-degree felony criminal sexual conduct, the department said in a news release Wednesday.
WDIV-TV reported that in 2010, Dean, who was a teacher at Cedar Crest Academy, began engaging in sex acts with the student during her seventh- and eighth-grade years, authorities said. The incidents occurred on a plane, in a "secret apartment" and in a classroom, the outlet reported.
The girl reported the incidents earlier this month, the Sheriff's Office said.
"I applaud this brave victim in coming forward to report this truly atrocious behavior by a teacher," Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said in a statement. "Our teachers are supposed to be trusted mentors, role models and leaders for our children, and when one violates this trust, they must be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law."
