A get-together between two former neighbors in Michigan led to a fight in which one woman bit off another woman's ear, police said.

A 44-year-old woman was arrested early Tuesday on a charge of assault with intent to do bodily harm, less than murder, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office told local media.

Deputies responded early Tuesday to an apartment in Rochester Hills, WXYZ-TV reported. A neighbor had called 911 after he said he heard sounds of a fight and one woman calling for help.

Deputies said they could hear a woman's cries as they entered the apartment. In the master bedroom, deputies found two partially nude women covered in blood, WDIV-TV reported. A 48-year-old woman had several bite marks on her face, and her left ear had been bitten off, the sheriff's office said. A 44-year-old woman was reportedly hovering over the victim.

Paramedics arrived and treated the victim. The deputies arrested the 44-year-old woman, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or unknown drugs that were recovered at the apartment, The Detroit Free Press reported.

The victim told police she had invited the 44-year-old woman over for drinks and that they were previously neighbors. She said the woman began making sexual advances toward her, and she refused.

The victim said she went to bed, and woke up to the 44-year-old woman, now naked, strangling and biting her. The woman allegedly told the victim she would kill her.

Both women were taken to a hospital.
