Milwaukee man accused of fatally beating 5-year-old son over piece of cheesecake

A Milwaukee man is accused of fatally punching his 5-year-old son because the boy ate his cheesecake, WISN reported.

Travis Stackhouse, 29, was charged with one count of first-degree reckless homicide, WITI reported. He appeared in court Thursday, and bail was set at $100,000.

According to a investigators, Stackhouse became upset because his son had eaten his Father's Day cake, the television station reported.

According to a criminal complaint, an autopsy revealed the boy suffered blunt force trauma to his abdomen. The child also had bruising to both eyes, and cuts on his lip and sternum, WITI reported.

Police responded to a Milwaukee residence at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, WISN reported. The boy was not breathing when police arrived, and paramedics were called. Firefighters performed CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene, the television station reported.

Stackhouse later admitted to investigators he hit the boy in the stomach and then struck him on both sides of his face with the back of his hand, according to the criminal complaint. Stackhouse also told investigators he had a metal rod in his right hand, according to the complaint..

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5, WITI reported.
