Missouri nightclub shooting: 2 dead, 15 hurt in Kansas City; police ID gunman, victim

At least two people have died and up to 15 were taken to the hospital after gunfire erupted at a Missouri nightclub, police said.

Here are the latest updates:

Update 4:45 p.m. EST Jan. 20: At a news conference Monday afternoon, Kansas City Police Chief Rick Smith identified the suspected shooter as Jahron Swift, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri. the woman who died was identified as 25-year-old Raven Parks, WDAF reported.

Update 10:46 a.m. EST Jan. 20: According to a Facebook post by the 9ine Ultra Lounge, the nightclub was hosting a celebration after the Kansas City Chiefs earned a berth into Super Bowl LIV -- the team's first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years.

"Our greatest challenges remain even this morning in our community," Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas tweeted early Monday. "My thoughts are with the families and friends of those whose lives were lost or impacted by last night's mass shooting."

Update 5:57 a.m. EST Jan. 20: Kansas City police have released the following statement about the shooting:

"On Jan. 19, at about 11:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Noland Road on a shooting. Upon arrival officers located one deceased adult female and one deceased adult male.

"As the investigation unfolded at least 15 other victims arrived at area hospitals. At this time three of those victims are listed in critical condition. An armed security guard at the business engaged the shooter outside of the establishment.

"We believe the shooter is the deceased adult male. The circumstances that [led] to this shooting are unknown. Detectives and crime scene investigators will be collecting evidence and talking with witnesses to gather more information to see what [led] to this shooting.

“There is no more information at this time, and no additional media briefings planned at this time. The next anticipated information release will most likely be the ID of deceased victims once the next of kin have been notified.”

Original report: According to WDAF and KSHB, the shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. local time at 9ine Ultra Lounge in Kansas City. Police said the suspect opened fire and likely was killed by a security guard. A woman also died during the incident, authorities said.

Three of the injured remain in critical condition, WDAF reported.

No further information was immediately available.
