Ruiz and her husband claim school officials had not been told about the bullying their son was experiencing until the parents told the school, including being told by other students to "go back to Mexico" and to "go behind the wall," Ruiz told WNBC.
The verbal abuse happened in the school's cafeteria, according to the family's attorney, NJ.com reported.
But once they were alerted by Ruiz’s husband Alfonso , administrators said they spoke to the students.
The vice principal told Ruiz that administrators were going to contact them, but had gotten busy, the attorney told NJ.com.
The school did not comment on the family's allegations, the North Jersey Record reported.
The family says it has forgiven the child who is accused of the attack, WNBC reported.
The student has been charged with aggravated assault, Passaic Mayor Hector Lora said, according to the Record.
