Chris Chodkowski was walking in the park with his wife, 9-month-old daughter and 2-year-old labradoodle when the family decided to sit on a bench, WPIX reported.,

“We didn’t hear him barking," Erica Chodkowski told the television station. "We didn’t know another dog was near us."

The white pit bull, which weighed between 60 and 70 pounds, jumped on the bench and allegedly attacked Chris Chodkowski after jumping over his wife and child, according to WNBC.

"The dog really latched onto his arm," Erica Chodkowski told WPIX.

She called 911 while a stranger helped her with the baby, according to WNBC. Erica Chodkowski said the dog's owner caught up to the animal and apologized to the couple before leaving, the television station reported.

"All he kept saying was I don't know why he did that, I don't know why he did that," Erica Chodkowski told WPIX. "I kept saying to him please don't leave I need to speak with you."

Erica Chodowski said she wanted to confirm the dog had been vaccinated, but the animal's owner left, the television station reported. But without any information, her husband had to get rabies shots.

"He's out of work, he can't hold (the baby), he's in a sling, he's all bandaged up, he has to go back next week and then for the next four weeks, rabies shots," Erica Chodkowski told WPIX. "This is something that's going to affect us for quite a while."
