New York sanitation worker injured after helium tank explodes

A sanitation worker was injured after a helium tank exploded in the back of his truck Friday morning in Brooklyn.

David Yen, who has worked in the Department of Sanitation for 13 years, was taken to the hospital with a shrapnel injury to his eye, WCBS reported.

"New Yorkers should consider the safety of the dedicated men and women of the Department of Sanitation, who are serving the public on our streets every day," Harry Nespoli, Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association president, said in a statement. "Please don't place dangerous chemicals or other items in household trash."
