Naomi Short, the 8-year-old Hamilton, Ohio, girl who has gained national attention for her cancer fight, was deputized by Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones on Friday.

Jones made Short a "special deputy" as the latest community effort to support Short and her family. That included the Sheriff's Office dressing a white horse as a unicorn to surprise her earlier this month.

Short has stage 4 brain cancer and began chemotherapy treatments last week. Her form of the disease has no known cure, her family has said.

Hamilton’s Naomi Short, who has inspired Hamilton with her battle against cancer, was surprised by a Butler County Sheriff’s office horse dressed as a unicorn on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.
