A North Carolina paramedic tried to save his daughter after responding to a fire at his home, but she later died at a hospital.

Eddie Thomas, a firefighter and paramedic for more than 30 years, responded to a call Tuesday morning at his home where his daughter Candice Wynn was trapped inside, WFMY reported.

As firefighters contained the flames, rescue crews removed Wynn, 40, and tried to perform lifesaving measures.

Wynn, a mother of two, died while being taken to a hospital, WFMY reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

GoFundMe account was started to help Thomas for medical and funeral expenses.

"We run calls all the time. And when it's your own people and it's their family. That's unimaginable," Altamahaw Ossipee Fire Chief Edward Lipscomb told WFMY. "I know Eddie on a personal level. He's hurting. He may not show it. But we all know he's hurting."
