Terrian Javon Knight, 29, of St. Petersburg, was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He is facing charges of armed robbery and attempted homicide, the newspaper reported.
According to St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez, Knight entered the Family Dollar store at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday and shot the employee. Knight ran from the scene and officers followed him to a field near the store, WFTS reported.
"That was the goal," Fernandez told the Times. "We wanted to make sure we could keep him contained there and keep an eye on him until daylight."
Officers used dogs, drones and a helicopter to search for Knight, Bay News 9 reported.
The Family Dollar employee was treated at an area hospital and released later Tuesday, the newspaper reported.
