Police investigate after dogs eat tainted hot dogs

Police in Ohio are investigating after two family pets apparently ate tainted hot dogs.

The incidents happened on Jan. 15 in separate locations about a quarter mile apart, investigators said.

According to police, an unknown material was placed in hot dogs and left in fenced-in backyards.

The dogs, a boxer and a golden retriever mix, are both recovering, police said. The dogs experienced profuse vomiting and were acting strangely.

According to police, the person responsible could face a charge of attempted destruction of domestic animals, which is considered a misdemeanor.
