WSB-TV spoke with the victim, who said he went to the restaurant for a late-night dinner and a waffle for his daughter but left with a broken nose and the realization it could have been a lot worse.
Cellphone video of the Sept. 22 fight shows two men go after the victim and then sucker punch him as he left the restaurant.
Police are trying to identify the two men seen kicking and punching the shirtless man.
The victim, asking not to be identified, told WSB-TV that it started when he accidentally bumped into one of the men at the cash register.
"He put his finger in my chest and I told him I had no interest in fighting him. I pushed his finger away," the victim said.
Waffle House security video shows the suspect walking out. About a minute later, the victim walked out.
"He said, ‘Hey. Do you remember me?' And at that point his friend emerged from between two cars, sucker punching me," the victim said.
Video shows the man repeatedly punching the victim in the doorway of Waffle House. Ultimately, the victim suffered a broken nose, but fought the men off.
"Once I could control one of them, I could at least save my life. I'm just glad they didn't come back with a gun or something like that," the victim said.
Police released video and pictures of the attackers, but do not know their identities.
"If you've got to have your best friend jump between cars and sucker punch someone so you can win, you're a coward," the victim said.
Witnesses say the two men left together in a black Dodge Challenger, but so far, officers have not been able to get a readable tag number.
