The recall covers 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 trucks, as well as the 2017 through 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 equipped with 6.6-liter diesel engines and an optional engine block heater.

The electric heater cord or the terminal connecting the cord to the heater can short circuit and fail, company officials said Friday. Drivers of vehicles with engine block heaters are asked not to use them.

There have been 19 fires caused because of the defective parts. No injuries have been reported.

The auto manufacturer is still working to fix the problem. GM has been investigating the issue since December.
