According to WMTV, the discovery came last week after gunfire erupted in a Madison neighborhood the night of Nov. 24. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and eventually found 45 shell casings, Madison police said.

"In addition, it was discovered, in the 900 block of Vernon Ave., that one round entered the bedroom of a sleeping child with the toddler's stuffed shark taking a bullet," the incident report read.

The 3-year-old girl's mother, identified only as Tanice, told WMTV that the shark doll was just inches away from her daughter.
