Teen confesses to killing 5 members of family, sheriff's deputies say

An Alabama teen has confessed that he killed five of his family members, according to the Limestone County Sheriff's Department.

It happened Monday night.

At first, the 14-year-old had called law enforcement Monday night saying he had heard shots coming from upstairs in the home. The teen said he was downstairs at the time, WAFF reported.

When deputies searched the home, they found an adult and two juveniles dead and another adult and a juvenile with critical injuries. They were both flown to area hospitals, where they died.

At 3 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said the teen confessed to shooting all five family members with a 9 mm handgun that he then got rid of, according to WAFF.

The victims were the boy's father, stepmother and siblings, WHNT reported.

The teen attended Elkmont High School where extra counselors are being dispatched to help students and staff, WHNT reported.
