The accident occurred in Ashland City as the woman and at least one other person were trimming trees, Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove told The Tennessean.
Breedlove said a rope got caught in the chipper and wrapped around her leg, severing it, WKRN reported.
The woman, who was not identified by police, was taken by a medical helicopter to Nashville for treatment, the Tennessean reported.
The woman also is believed to have suffered a severe injury to her other leg, WKRN reported
