"My son was just laying on the ground. He's 6 he kind of knows what to do but he's never been put in a situation like that," Jillian Lindeman, Mason's mother, told KPRC.
"As soon as I noticed, I just ran over there without thinking and I didn't know how, but I knew I had to get the dog off of the boy," Brown told the news station.
Video footage, which may be disturbing to some, shows Brown ran over and the pit bull turned toward him, allowing Mason to get away. The dog knocked over Brown and stood on top of him.
"The dog was on top of me before I knew it and I knew I had to keep his mouth away from me," Brown said.
Brown ultimately got to safety, throwing the dog to the ground and escaping with just a cut to his hand. Mason had some facial bruises and was taken to hospital and was treated for a laceration to the head. According to Inside Edition, Mason got staples in the back of his head. He is expected to be OK.

Inside Editon reported that Brown reunited with Mason and gave him a stuffed dog. He said he was glad Mason was OK.
"To me, he is a hero," Lindeman told Inside Edition.
Brown was modest, saying, "I don't think I'm a hero. I just did the right thing."
The dog's owner was cited and the pet was surrendered to Montgomery County Animal Control. Inside Edition reported that the dog was euthanized.
