According to KTVT, authorities discovered the child late Sunday during a welfare check at the home on Coston Drive. Although the grandmother initially said the boy was with his mom, a man who also lives on the property directed officers to a nearby shed, police told the news outlet.
When the grandmother unlocked the shed for officers, they discovered the child, whose hands were bound, KTVT reported. Her boyfriend told investigators that the boy had been confined there as a punishment for stealing food, according to the news outlet.
The child claimed that the abuse began after his school shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic, police told KTVT.
Authorities arrested the grandmother and her boyfriend, whose names have not been released. The boy and two siblings, ages 7 and 4, are now in foster care, WFAA-TV reported.
