"We're sad that NBC has decided to take The Office back for its own streaming platform — but members can binge watch the show to their hearts' content ad-free on Netflix until January 2021," the streaming company said in a tweet Tuesday.

"'The Office' has become a staple of pop culture and is a rare gem whose relevance continues to grow at a time when fans have more entertainment choices than ever before," Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCUniversal's direct-to-consumer and digital enterprises, said in a statement to USA Today. "We can't wait to welcome the gang from Dunder Mifflin to NBCUniversal's new streaming service."

"The Office" originally ran on NBC for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013 and made Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson and Ed Helms household names. It was developed for American audiences and based on Ricky Gervais' British sitcom of the same name.

Netflix won't be totally without a Carell TV show, however. Carell starring in the new workplace comedy series, "Space Force," which he co-created with "The Office" producer Greg Daniels. "Space Force" will be about people who are tasked with creating a new government military branch.
