The violent confrontation was caught on cellphone video by students at Winder-Barrow High School and shared on social media.
The disturbing video shows one student slam the other girl's head against a wall with so much force you can hear a loud pop.
The student was flown to Children's Hospital of Atlanta, the school district confirmed Friday. Late Friday night, a woman who identified herself as the victim's mother, told WSB that her daughter was in stable condition and thanked everyone for their support.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, which unfolded Thursday afternoon at the school in front of 15 to 20 witnesses.
Officials said they are not jumping to conclusions about who started what, but said they are in contact with both students' families as they try to determine a motive. Investigators are also trying to find more camera footage is available.
Parents who alerted WSB-TV to the video said they were upset because they were not told about the fight and said bullying is a problem at the school.
Parents were shocked when they saw the video.
"That level of hostility ... It's just so violent," Yameka Campbell said. "It just looked like pure hatred to do that."
"It almost makes me emotional to think that's somebody's child," Allison Lee said.
Campbell said the school should have informed parents about the fight.
"Even if it were just a mass email that got sent out to all the parents, you know, just saying there was a rather violent fight that broke out," Campbell said. "Just to see that they know, that they are investigating and there's going to be a process in place."
Some parents said bullying is out of control at the school.
"I've heard a lot of things," Lee said. "I'm not judging. But bullying -- it's got to stop. Where do you draw the line?"
