Shortly after she starts to pump gas, a man can be seen in surveillance video crouching near the SUV before he jumps in. The pump flies into the air as the thief drives away.
The woman runs around the vehicle from the pump to the front of the vehicle, where she clutches onto the driver’s door.
"(She was) holding on to the door like this and he was pulling her and she was hollering. Literally he ran over her. I don't know how she got back up and she was walking, I don't know. Maybe God was with her, I don't know. But she was just hollering, 'My baby, my baby, my baby,'" witness Elroy Jacobs told WJLA.
The car was recovered about a half mile away, its gas tank door still open.
The mother and child were not injured.
Police are still looking for the suspect.
