A 22-year-old woman fell five stories from the roof of her Manhattan apartment building Saturday evening and survived, according to media reports.
The victim was taking skyline photos from the roof with friends around 8 p.m. when she lost her balance, plunging off the building in the Kips Bay neighborhood and landing in a small outdoor space, according to WNBC-TV.
The woman, identified as Reilly Hamilton, suffered severe injuries, including a fractured pelvis, broken ankle and broken arm, WNBC reported. She was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Hamilton is the latest in a string of falls, many deadly, involving people trying to take selfies from dangerous locations.
Briar Cliff University student Andrea Norton, 20, died in a fall from a cliff in an Arkansas state park last month as she was trying to position herself in a group photo.
Fordham University student Sydney Monfries, 22, also died last month after falling more than 30 feet from a landing in the college’s off-limits clock tower after taking photos of the Bronx skyline with friends on the tower’s roof.
