Maier told FOX13 she was adopted into a nice, happy family with loving parents.
“My mother did tell me a little bit about my birth mom, but she didn’t know that much,” said Maier.
Still, that curiosity lingered in her mind. Mainly, Maier wanted to know more about her birth mother’s family.
Maier battled depression as she was grew up and wanted to know if anyone on her birth mother’s side did as well.
Even though she had always been curious about who her birth mother was, Maier never set out to look for her until now.
“My parents passed away," Maier said. “I didn’t want to do it anyway when they were alive.”
58 years later, Maier turned to Child Services in Nashville to help find her mother.
She started the process in July, and after 5 months of filling out paper work, Maier found her mother in Arizona.
Last week, she flew out to Arizona and met her birth mother for the first time at the airport.
"Wow there she is! I gave her a big hug, she gave me a big hug and we went out to dinner,” said Maier.
Maier learned a lot about her birth mother’s family, got answers to questions she’s had for years.
“She told me a lot about her brother. It made me sad, but I wanted to know,” said Maier.
Now, the two women are on the path to building a relationship, a mother-daughter bond.
“This sounds silly but, it sort of made me feel complete," she said. “Like I knew stuff that I was wondering about. Like the puzzles were filled, the pieces were filled.”
Maier said they have a great relationship and they make the effort to talk to each other everyday.
