The van exited I-75 at Benchwood Road, driving into other jurisdictions.
It wasn’t until around 3 p.m. that troopers began to receive more calls about the reckless driver heading south on I-75, once again from Benchwood, Kramer said.
After getting back onto I-75 south, the van got off the highway and turned around in order to get onto I-75 north toward Tipp City.
Troopers say there were more 911 calls that came in about the reckless driver some even reported the van driving between 80 and 90 mph.
The van crashed into two other cars after the driver exited I-75 north at state Route 571 in Tipp City.
It wasn’t until the aftermath of the crash that troopers realized there was a 9-year-old behind the wheel, Kramer said.
No one was injured in the impact and the boy was taken into custody.
He was later released to his grandmother but troopers say he could be facing a list of traffic charges, including grand theft auto in Miami County Juvenile Court.
