85-year-old woman accused of killing roommate, shooting another, police say

Police arrested an 85-year-old woman Thursday on suspicion of killing her roommate and shooting another in Federal Way.

Police said they received a call Thursday morning from a woman who reported that she had been shot in the 2000 block of SW 306th Lane, just southwest of Adelaide Elementary School.

Arriving officers said they found two female victims in their 30s. Police said one woman was dead from what appeared to be blunt-force trauma while the other victim was shot.

The injured woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, police said. She is expected to survive.

Authorities said the woman identified her 85-year-old roommate, whose name was not released, as the suspected shooter when she called 911.

“The suspect appears to have attempted suicide by strangulation after committing the assaults, but survived,” police said in a news release.

The suspect was taken to the police station for processing. Detectives said they were in the process Thursday morning of obtaining a search warrant to enter the home.

“This is a domestic violence situation between roommates and the motive is still unclear,” police said.
