Once the FAA takes possession of a building from the contractor, it needs several months to install and test equipment. For this reason, the contractor completion date is months before our actual commissioning date, whichis the official date of operation at the new facility.
Features Of New Tower: A control tower and single-story administrative building with steel panel and glass exterior. Parking facilities Complete mechanical and electrical equipment, including interior and exterior lighting. FAA Air Traffic and FAA Technical Operations personnel will be headquartered in the facility. Location will be at 2753 Cargo Road just north of the airport terminal.
Improvements: A cab area of 625 square feet. A tower cab floor height of 225 feet. A top of the roof height of 254 feet. Larger adminstration area, which will allow for simultaneous training and conference activity.
Specifications: 254 feet to the top of antenna 225 feet from ground to the floor of the tower cab. Tower cab will feature 5 controller positions, plus supervisor. Tower link and base building is steel framed and fully fire protected. Base building is 10,526 square feet. Total projected cost, including equipment and furnishings is $30.6 million. 100% federally funded. FAA Air Traffic Controllers and Technical Operations personnel were key in the design team.
Current Dayton Airport Traffic Control Tower: 86 feet to the top of the tower. Cab floor size: 333 square feet. Commisssioning Date: 1961. Staffed with 48 air traffic employees and 9 technical operations personnel.
