Ohio Task Force 1 activated to respond to Hurricane Delta

The Ohio Task Force 1 has been activated to respond to Hurricane Delta in Louisiana, Task Force Program Manager Evan Schumann said.

Teams were called to gather at their warehouse in Vandalia at 6 p.m. and they are leaving at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The team plans to station at a park in Hammond, Louisiana where they will work with the state of Louisiana for search and rescue missions. All members will be tested for coronavirus before they leave, a Facebook post stated.

Schumann said they are activating as a type III task force which means they will have the capabilities of a type one team with approximately 45 members. Task forces are equipped to handle search and rescue operations in damaged or collapsed structures, administer emergency medical care to trapped survivors, as well as assess hazardous buildings or structures to provide feedback to local or state officials for reconstruction or stabilize damage structures, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website reported.
