It's an idea that was pushed on behalf of the school's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Center.
Center Director Mickey Hart told The Post, OU's student-newspaper, that the gender-neutral housing will be of particular benefit to students who identify as transgender.
Student Senate member Sean Martin said students in dating relationships who try to live together under the new housing option will be "frowned upon."
Administrators said a one-year experiment with male-female roommates will begin with this year's fall term, primarily for upperclassmen.
Other Ohio schools, including Miami University, are also trying out gender-neutral housing.
