One Year Anniversary Of Pingleton Murder

One year ago today, a Darke County man was murdered, robbed and buried in a shallow grave on his property.

Darke County Sheriff Toby Spencer calls the Dec. 15, 2003, murder of David Pingleton intriguing and complicated, adding that his detectives and deputies did a terrific job working the case.

Pingleton's son and daughter are among five people who were arrested in connection with the case. Today, all five are serving lengthy terms in prison on a variety of charges.

Investigators said all five suspects who were arrested never went to trial and all accepted plea bargains. The last to accept a plea bargain was David Pingleton's daughter, 17-year-old Olivia.

Three days before Olivia Pingleton was to go on trial as an adult this week, she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to the women's reformatory in Marysville for 10 years.

David Pingleton's son, Jesse Pingleton, is serving life in prison for the murder of his father. Anthony Brown, of Dayton, is also serving life in prison in connection with the death.

Anthony Brown's brother, Chauncy, is serving four years on a charge of obstructing justice for helping to bury David Pingleton.

On the same charge as Chauncy Brown, Antonia King, of Dayton, is serving three years behind bars for his role in David Pingleton's death.

Members of David Pingleton's family said they now have closure and can begin the process of healing.
