Grand juries, which meet in secret, review criminal charges brought by police and prosecutors and investigate possible criminal behavior. The proceedings are usually one-sided, because the accused is not present and witnesses are not cross-examined.

A grand jury may issue an indictment if it finds probable cause that a crime was committed and the accused person is responsible. An indictment is an accusation that must then be proven in court. The grand jury may also elect to issue no indictment.

Indictments returned during a recent session of the Butler County grand jury:

Luke B. Williams, 1335 Forest Ave., Middletown; indicted on one count each of trespass in a habitation, assault (direct), and unlawful restraint (direct).

Leah Graham, 3420 Alamosa Drive, Cincinnati; certified back to the lower court on one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Christopher Mimes, 8770 Venus Lane, Cincinnati; indicted on one count each of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property.

Jennifer Imholt, 8845 Eaglecreek Road, Cincinnati; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, possession of heroin, petty theft, and possessing drug abuse instruments.

Russell J. Sexton, 520 Vine St., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, and possession of heroin (direct).

Dallas Hopkins, III, 2321 Thrush Ave., Fairfield; indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs.

Joshua J. Sexton, 1343 Maple Ave., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, and turn signal violation.

Kristopher M. LaBoffe, 2800 Dixie Highway, #105, Hamilton; indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs.

Shayla A. Simmons, 221 N. Cherry St., Lebanon; indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs.

Tyler Koster, 2703 Flemming Road, Middletown; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, and possessing drug abuse instruments.

Storm Ian Billingsley, 735 Sycamore St., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, and possession of marijuana.

Elizabeth Ann Curtis, 125 Rose Lea Ave., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

James L. Burke, 447 N. Second St., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under suspension.

Joshua B. Seek, 7324 Stone Run Place 3a, Middletown; indicted on one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Donald Ray Gibson, 1309 S. 13th St., Hamilton; indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs (direct).
