Police: alleged fugitive injures officers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--Two Springfield police officers were injured while trying to arrest a suspected fugitive Sunday afternoon.

Christopher L. Gibbs, 24, address at large, was taken to Clark County Jail and charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, one count of resisting arrest and three warrants for fugitive from justice.

Officers and an employee of John Craven Bail Bonds approached Gibbs in the Meijer parking lot at 1500 Hillcrest Ave. and notified him he was under arrest on the three active warrants.

Gibbs began fighting with officers and all three wound up on the ground. Gibbs was pepper sprayed before being taken into custody.

One of the officers was transported by medics to the Springfield Regional Medical Center for injuries to an arm. After placing Gibbs in jail, the other officer was transported to the hospital for a possible head injury and for injuries to his arms.

Gibbs pleaded not guilty the assault and resisting arrest charges during his arraignment Monday in Clark County Municipal Court. Bond was set at $20,000 for the assault charges and $1,000 for the resisting arrest charge.
