Police in Muncie, Indiana, confirmed that seven people were shot during a house party early Saturday morning near Ball State University, WXIN reported.
The shooting occurred just after 1 a.m., the local news station reported. Some of the victims could be students at the university, WXIN reported.
Update 4:46 p.m. EDT May 18: Muncie police arrested a 19-year-old Indiana man in connection with the shooting at an off-campus party near Ball State University that left seven people injured, three of them critically, the Muncie Star Press reported.
Va Shaun Harnett, 19, of Muncie, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and was being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail, the newspaper reported. Ball State officials said in a statement that Muncie is not a student at the University, WXIN reported.
"Keeping all members of our campus community safe is a top priority," Ball State University President Geoffrey S. Mearns said in a statement. "This is a very unfortunate event. We wish all the victims a full and prompt recovery."
Update 7:01 a.m. EDT May 18: Muncie police Chief Joe Winkle said three people were in critical condition, WXIN reported. Winkle added some of the victims are Ball State students, but he did not disclose the extent of their injuries, the television station reported.
"It was a party with a DJ," Winkle told WXIN. "Evidently there was some kind of a confrontation inside the house it turned into a shooting we've got seven gunshot victims. I believe one has been life lined to Indianapolis, two are pretty serious and several are minor wounds that will actually be released tonight."
The Muncie Police Department made at least one arrest in connection to the shooting, the television station reported.

Update 6:49 a.m. EDT May 18: Emergency personnel found victims at the scene and learned that at least two other people had been taken to a hospital, the Muncie Star Press reported.
Muncie police Chief Joe Winkle, told the newspaper the shootings occurred at "an off-campus party." Winkle said that as of 6 a.m. Saturday, he believed that six of the victims remained hospitalized, with "an unspecified number" suffering life-threatening injuries, the Star Press reported..
Ball State University Police issued an emergency alert shortly after 1 a.m., but canceled it at 1:43, WRTV reported.
