Religious leaders announce support of Muslim community, immigrants

People of faith from the Dayton area gathered this morning to proclaim their love and support for the Muslim community and immigrants from the Middle East, especially Syria.

“Expanding Our Hearts” was the theme of the press conference today at Temple Israel, 130 Riverside Drive, in Dayton.

Spiritual leaders from a diversity of religions — including Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Bahai’, Unitarian Universalist and Hindu — offered perspectives from their respective teachings and prayers.

According to a press release, the united message of support aims to dispel fears, countering much of the vitriolic rhetoric and violence being promulgated.

It highlights the common practice at the heart of all religions to extend hospitality and welcome the immigrant.
