According to jail records, a suspect was booked into the Montgomery County Jail around 3:30 a.m. He was booked on a murder charge, but still has not been formally charged by the prosecutor’s office.
The coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy on the victim. Witnesses said the man may have been shot as many as a dozen times.
The victim was identified as Robert Landers, 30, of Dayton. He was found shot on the ground near the intersection of Salem Avenue and Wolf Road on Tuesday.
The shooting happened in broad daylight in front of Big Muffler shop near the intersection. A caller to 911 claimed he saw everything while sitting at a traffic light. He said two men, one wearing a mask, were in a white car.
The witness said the men fired an AK-47 as many as a dozen times. Police said other cars were hit in the area, but the men fled the scene.
