Solid Rock Church founder dies

The Rev. Lawrence Bishop, the preacher who founded Solid Rock Church, the area’s largest church, has died, according to church reports.

Bishop, 69, died at 11:49 p.m. Friday, according to a notice on the church web site.

“Thank you for your prayer and support for the Bishop family and the congregation of Solid Rock,” the notice said.

Bishop was taken Thursday to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown after being found, breathing and unconscious, sitting in his bedroom by his wife Darlene.

Bishop was transferred to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He remained unresponsive Friday night in the intensive care unit, according to the hospital.

Dora Bronston, president of the Middletown Area NAACP, described Bishop as the “spiritual leader of our home.”

Since news of Bishop’s health spread, Bronston said, it brought church members closer because they were “praying for the same thing.”
